What’s New With Tina

My 11th birthday was November 1. This special day was Saturday and I did lots of fun activities for my birthday starting on Wednesday. On Wednesday my grandparents invited my friend Trinity and I for lunch at T.MAC and to Dave and Busters for games. It was so much fun and we really enjoyed it.
I received gifts the whole week. I really enjoyed all my gifts and definitely appreciated them. On the day of my birthday I went to the spa with my dad and his best friend Johnny to get our nails and feet done. After I opened my present from my father he gave me a Mac Book Pro Computer. I could not believe it because these types of computers are extremely expensive.
Jonney gave me a CD port for the Mac because the computer itself did not have one. I was so happy to get my new computer but it took us 3 hours to get everything situated and it working properly. Sunday morning I got a case for me to carry my Mac around. My dad took me to moms where I helped her pack up.
My mom was moving so it took a long time to get everything out of the apartment and then finally we finished. Then my mom made food for my mini birthday party. There was only 1 family because we only had that amount of food. Then I got to open my moms and sister’s present.
I received 100 dollars from my mom and a jacket from my sister. So overall I had a fantastic 11th birthday and I appreciated all my gifts.

Statue Of Liberty

One of the most noticeable things that you see when you are entering the New York harbor is the enormous Statue of Liberty. It was given to us by the French as a symbol of friendship, however, there is great meaning to the statue. Over the years, Lady Liberty has been a symbolic icon to people all over the world.
To some people, her presence means freedom and a new beginning. During the American Revolution, America probably would not have been able to conquer the British and gain freedom without the help of the French.
The French helped a lot by supplying the U.S with plenty of money, ships, weapons and soldiers to fight against the British. Almost 100 years after the war, the French decided that they had a great deal in common with the US and wanted something to symbolize their close historic ties and their passion for freedom and liberty.
Because of the close bond between the two countries, the French decided that it would be a great idea to show the United States that they are close allies and exemplify the fact that they were also dedicated to the idea of human liberty. There was a great deal of work that was put into creating the statue. The French hired Frederic Auguste Bartholdi to sculpt the statue.
The statue of liberty is an amazing piece of art, and means lots of things to the Americans.

Skiing At Sugar Mountain

minnieskiing ski-clipart-3

Skiing is so much fun. When you ski you have to get tricky, sticky horrible boots on your feet. The boots attach to your ski’s which are super hard to get on. When we went to sugar mountain me and my cousin enrolled in ski school. We visited during the week so many kids would be at the school. We rented ski equipment and bought warm jackets to avoid the cold. Monday was the day we started skiing it was tough but we had cool ski teachers to help us out. We learned the basics of skiing. On Tuesday we learned how to ride the ski lift and go fast. We went on this slope called Easy Street. It was so much fun when we were on the ski lift with another ski teacher. On Wednesday we continued our journey on Easy Street. This time me and Lilly went on the ski lift together we had a technical difficulty but we sorted it out. We where sad to leave but had an amazing time. I hope to come again next year.

Thanksgiving 2014

Thanksgiving is the prime time of year because of the weather and the food. This thanksgiving my dad and I had dinner with my aunt and uncle and my 2 cousins at my grandparents.

We were playing and having appetizers while we waited for our food.  Me and my  six year old cousin Lilly watched TV as my aunt took care of my baby cousin Alison who 8 months old.

When my grandma said “come and eat” we all ran into the dinning room like a stampede of hungry  hippo’s. We sat down and prayed for the lovely food, life and family god has given us. We devoured the heavenly turkey, sweet potato’s, gravy, stuffing, jelled cranberry and banana bread my aunt makes every year.

We had to keep my starving dog Kelsey in the cage because every year she eats the banana bread. As we ate I could hear my dog whimper and cry for a nibble of our food.

After our dinner we had apple pie and pumpkin cheesecake with savory vanilla ice-cream. Our whole family mostly enjoyed the pumpkin pie cheesecake. I absolutely relish going to my grandparents house for thanksgiving every year because it represents a great family gathering.

I hope you had an amazing thanksgiving.

The History Of Thanksgiving

pilllturkey-pilgirm-in-autumn-leaves

Thanksgiving is one of America’s most treasured holidays and traditions. The American Thanksgiving holiday began as a feast in the early days of the American colonies almost 400 years ago. In 1620, a boat filled with more than 100 people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from England to settle in the New World. This religious group had begun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it. Another reason was the king was rude and demanding.
The pilgrims settled in what is now the state of Massachusetts, and their first winter in the New World was difficult. They had arrived too late in the year to grow any crops, and without fresh food, half the colonist died from diseases which the contracted on the voyage from England. The following spring the Iroquois Indians befriended the pilgrims and taught them how to grow corn, something the colonist never had done before.
They showed them other crops to grow in the unfamiliar soil and how to hunt and fish. In the autumn of 1621, plentiful crops of corn, barley, beans and pumpkins were harvested. The colonists had much to be thankful for, so a feast was planned.
They invited the local Indian chief and 90 Indians. The Indians brought deer to roast with the turkeys and other wild game offered by the colonists. The colonists had learned how to cook cranberries and different kinds of corn and squash dishes from the Indians.
In following years, many of the original colonists celebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanks. After the United States became an independent country, Congress recommended one yearly day of thanksgiving for the whole nation to celebrate.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and I hope you enjoy your next Thanksgiving.

Engineers An Awesome Proffesion

keep-calm-im-a-future-biomedical-engineer

Engineers create, innovate, and design things so the world can be a better place. Engineers are like scientist but they make the things possible by math. Math is needed when being an engineer and so is the ability to solve difficult problems.
There are many different kinds of engineers such as an Aerospace, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer and many more.
When I grow up I want to be a biomedical engineer. Biomedical engineers work in different areas of medicine focusing on various ways that technology can be used to treat biological or medical problems. Some examples of what biomedical engineers can do: Create a prosthetic leg designed especially for children; Grow tissues that helps repair damage from heart attack; Protect the environment by producing organic fertilizer; Grow vegetables that contain more nutrients; Develop treatments that don’t cause debilitating side effects.

Its sounds like a great job helping people who are ill. Since there is a great demand for biomedical engineers you will always have a job and a dependable amount of money. Biomedical Engineering will be a career to go into and I know that if you go into an engineering job you will not be setting yourself up for failure.

When you get out of college for engineering you will have no problem finding a job.

The History Of Athens

Athens is the patron city of Greece. Athens is named after the Greek goddess Athena. She was the goddess of wisdom, war, and civilization.

The Acropolis

The Acropolis was built on a hill in the middle of the city of Athens. Surrounded by stone walls, it was originally built as a citadel and fortress where the people could retreat when the city was attacked. Later, many temples and buildings were built here to overlook the city. It was still used as a fortress for some time.

At the center of the Acropolis is the Parthenon. This building was dedicated to the goddess Athena and was also used to store gold. Other temples were in the acropolis such as the Temple of Athena, Nike and the Erchtheum.

On the slope of the acropolis were theatres where plays and festivals were celebrated. The largest was the Theatre of Dionysus, god of wine and patron of the theatre. There were competitions held here to see who had written the best play. Up to 25,000 people could attend, and the design was so good that all could see and hear the play.

The Age of Pericles

The city of Ancient Athens reached its peak during the leadership of Pericles from 461 to 429 BC, called the Age of Pericles. During this time, Pericles promoted democracy, the arts, and literature. He also built many of the cities great structures including rebuilding much of the Acropolis and building the Parthenon
This city is amazing because it has beautiful architecture and was the birth of democracy.

Plato’s Cave

platocave plato1
Plato is known today as one of the greatest philosophers of all time. He was born about 429 BC, close to the time when Pericles died, and he died in 347 BC, just after the birth of Alexander the Great. Plato was born in Athens, to a very rich and powerful family. Many of his relatives were involved with Athenian politics, though Plato himself was not.
When Plato was a young man, he went to listen to Socrates and learned a lot from Socrates about how to think, and what sort of questions to think about. When Socrates was killed in 399 BC, Plato was upset. He started writing down most of what we know about Socrates today.
After a while, though, Plato began to write down his own ideas about philosophy instead of just writing down Socrates’ ideas. One of his earlier works is the Republic, which describes what Plato thought would be a better form of government than the government of Athens. Plato thought that most people were pretty stupid and they should not be voting about what to do. Instead, the best people should be chosen to be the guardians of the rest.
Plato also thought a lot about the natural world and how it works. He thought that everything had a sort of ideal form, like the idea of a chair, and then an actual chair was a sort of poor imitation of the ideal chair that exists only in your mind.
One of the ways Plato tried to explain his ideas was with the famous metaphor of the cave. He said, suppose there is a cave, and inside the cave there are some men chained up to a wall, so that they can only see the back wall of the cave and nothing else. These men can’t see anything outside of the cave, or even see each other clearly, but they can see shadows of what is going on outside the cave. The prisoners came to think that the shadows were real, and represented life.
Suppose now that one of the men escaped, and got out of the cave and saw what real people looked like and real trees and grass. If he went back to the cave and told the other men what he had seen, would they believe him, or would they think he was crazy?
Plato says that we are like those men sitting in the cave – we think we understand the real world, but because we are trapped in our bodies we can see only the shadows on the wall.
Plato was a very intelligent man and definitely learned from one of the best.

Leaping Lemurs

Two ring-tailed lemur babies sit on thei images
Lemurs are primates, who are omnivores, which means they eat animals and plants. They are found only on the African island of Madagascar and some tiny neighboring islands. Because of their isolation, Madagascar is home to many amazing animals found nowhere else on earth. Lemurs may have floated there eons ago on rafts of vegetation and evolved in isolation over countless centuries.
Ring-tailed lemurs are unmistakable because of their long, vividly striped, black-and-white tail. They are familiar residents of many zoos.
Lemurs use their hands and feet to move nimbly through the trees, but cannot grip with their tails as some of their primate cousins do. Ring-tailed lemurs also spend a lot of time on the ground, which is unusual among lemur species. They forage for fruit, which makes up the greater part of their diet, but also eat leaves, flowers, tree bark, and sap.
Ring-tailed lemurs have powerful scent glands and use their unique odor as a communication tool and even as a kind of weapon. Lemurs mark their territory by scent, serving notice of their presence to all who can smell. During mating season, male lemurs battle for dominance by trying to out stink each other. They cover their long tails with smelly fragrances and wave them in the air to determine which animal is more powerful.
Lemurs live in groups known as troops. These groups may include 6 to 30 animals, but average about 17. Both genders live in troops, but a dominant female presides over all like a queen.
Ring-tailed lemurs are endangered largely because the sparse dry forests they love and are quickly vanishing.
These animals are beautiful and I hope you can see one when you go to the zoo.

Amazing Octopuses

octo download (6)
The common octopus is unique for its appearance with its massive head, large eyes, and eight distinctive arms. But by far the most striking characteristic of the octopus is the wide array of techniques it uses to avoid or scare attackers.
Its first and most amazing line of defense is its ability to hide in plain sight. The octopus can camouflage well. When discovered, an octopus will release a cloud of black ink to dull its attacker’s view, giving it time to swim away. The ink even contains a substance that makes a predator’s sense of smell dull, making the fleeing octopus harder to track.
Octopuses are fast swimmers and can jet forward by expelling water. Their soft bodies can squeeze into small cracks and crevices where predators can’t follow. If all else fails, an octopus can lose an arm to escape a predator’s grasp and regrow it later with no permanent damage. They also have beak like jaws that can deliver a nasty bite, and venomous saliva.
The common octopus is found in the tropical and temperate waters of the world’s oceans. They can grow to about 4.3 feet in length and weigh up to 22 pounds. They prey on crabs and crayfish.

These are cool odd looking sea creatures and are almost invincible.
